Doris Yang Speaks on “Women in Hedge Funds” Panel in Hong Kong

Point72 Portfolio Manager Doris Yang spoke about her career path and experience at an event hosted by 100 Women in Finance in Hong Kong.
On the “Women in Hedge Funds” panel, Doris discussed what her day-to-day role as a PM entails, her experience making the transition from a long-only fund to a hedge fund, and the importance of creating a good culture on your team. She shared her thoughts on common traits for a successful career as a PM, which included being hard-working, analytical, and above all, passionate about the job.
“You also need to have enough resilience and intellectual honesty,” she told the audience. “In this industry, no one can be right 100% of the time, but if you stick to your mistakes, that amplifies the consequences. So, when you make a mistake, you need to be self-aware enough that you recognize it quickly, amend it quickly, and move on, because it’s such a high-paced job.”
Doris also discussed Point72’s career progression track for investment professionals through our Academy and Point72 LaunchPoint programs, how she de-stresses by exercising, and what she loves about the job.
“There’s never a lack of things you can learn, that’s the number one attraction to this job,” she said.
