We asked interns in Warsaw, Singapore, and London to tell us about what they are up to this summer at Point72 and their experience in our global offices.

Tell me about yourself and what you’re doing at the firm this summer?

Nadia: I’m from Poland and am currently a third-year student at the University of Warsaw, pursuing a degree in finance, international investment, and economics. Right now, I’m interning on the Market Data and Research Finance team at Point72.

Kevin: I’m from Singapore and studying economics at the National University of Singapore. This summer, I’m working as an Economist Intern. Before this, I gained experience in economics consulting at Oxford Economics and conducted trade research at Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Uttej: I grew up in Brampton, Canada, and I’m studying for a dual degree in Data Science and Business at Western University and the Ivey Business School, which are funnily in London, Canada. I run the Quant vertical at Mustang Capital, which is an investment fund at Western. This summer, I’m in the London office, working as a Data Engineer Intern in a Long/Short pod.

How has your experience been at Point72 so far?

Nadia: I love it so far, Point72 meets my expectations completely. I was looking for an opportunity that would challenge me. I definitely found it here and am learning so much new information and am supported by a great team.

Kevin: I’ve had a really good time and am learning a ton from my mentor and from people on nearby teams about what it takes to create research that’s not just insightful but also actionable. Outside of my own work, I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities this internship offers to learn more about the firm as a whole.

Uttej: It’s been amazing. Working within a pod feels very similar to the startup environment I’m used to, with tons of autonomy. It’s rewarding to see your ideas taken seriously and to get the opportunity to put things in production.

Can you tell me about a challenge you’ve had to overcome during your internship?

Nadia: Definitely just trying to understand and process all the information that informs the work I do. I work on a small, collaborative team which allows me to easily reach out to my teammates whenever I have any questions. Now I’m more confident in my abilities.

Kevin: Dealing with the amount of information I need to process, which is more of a mindset shift than anything. I gather a lot of data and read through existing literature, which often includes many different perspectives on the same topic. The main skill is developing a framework to help distill all of that into what’s truly important and relevant. It’s been a real test of critical thinking and judgment.

Uttej: Being close to capital decisions was a bit stressful at first, as I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure my work and code were high quality. Over time, through conversations with the team and learning how they approach problems, I gained a lot of confidence and learned to trust my ability to think critically.

Can you share a moment from your internship that you found rewarding?

Nadia: Every single day! Whenever I feel like I’ve done something right or made progress, it’s great to get the feedback from my manager saying, “Hey, that was well done,” especially given how complex the tasks can be. Even completing something properly feels like a reward in itself.

Kevin: Learning to navigate large amounts of data and conflicting perspectives has been rewarding. Turning what initially feels overwhelming into clear, impactful insights has been really satisfying. I’ve enjoyed seeing my progress along the way.

Uttej: There are more than one, but I really enjoy the frequent feedback sessions with my manager. These have helped me become a much better engineer and work on my personal growth at the firm.

How has collaborating with a global team during your internship shaped your perspective and experience?

Nadia: This is my first professional experience and I’m learning about how a global firm like Point72 operates. I’ve also learned how to interact with people from different backgrounds and hear more about their career paths and current roles.

Kevin: I’ve really enjoyed hearing from people across different offices. More than anything, it’s interesting to see how many people at the firm have global careers, working in multiple locations. I think that makes for unique perspectives and anecdotes, which I find especially motivating as someone just starting out in my career.

Uttej: I’ve enjoyed learning about the nuances of European capital markets. I’ve also been able to learn firsthand how the team here thinks differently about businesses and generates trade ideas. Being a smaller office, it’s been very easy to start conversations with people in the London team, and this really helped broaden my knowledge.

What do you enjoy most about the city where you are working this summer?

Nadia: I love the opportunities that Warsaw has to offer. I’m from a very small town of about 30,000 people, so getting the chance to work at a global firm like Point72 has been very eye-opening! It’s honestly surreal and I’m glad to have this kind of experience.

Kevin: One thing I love about the Singapore office location is the picturesque running routes nearby. I joined the office run club, which meets every Thursday, it is great!

Uttej: London’s population seems quite diverse, which extends to the food. My work lunches are amazing.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?

Nadia: I’m really passionate about sports, such as swimming, running, and cycling. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be swimming. I used to be a professional swimmer and swam for 14 years.

Kevin: I enjoy playing the piano, it’s a great way to switch gears and immerse myself in something completely different.

Uttej: I’ve been studying machine learning concepts, going to the gym, and making the most of being in Europe by booking weekend trips.
