We believe the Cubist Quant Academy is one of the hedge fund industry’s premier career development programs in quantitative investing, offering tracks for aspiring quantitative research analysts and developers. Launched in 2021, the Quant Academy is a year-long rotational program with several teams within Cubist, providing exposure to systematic trading approaches across multiple asset classes. By the end of the rotation, participants will have touched the full life cycle of a trade – from market data and research to portfolio construction and execution to post-trade analysis – and if successful, they will be ready to join a PM pod or our central team. Our developmental approach offers all Quant Academy participants the opportunity to earn permanent roles on Cubist teams.

The Quant Academy builds on Point72’s longstanding commitment to developing homegrown talent, beginning with the Point72 Academy, which teaches recent college graduates and early-career professionals how to become analysts in our Long/Short Equity business. The Quant Academy is overseen by our Chief Scientist, Kapil Mathur, who spent nearly two decades as a systematic PM, including 17 years at Point72. Kapil serves as a manager for the Quant Academy research analysts, regularly meeting with them to provide mentorship and tackle any issues they come across.
As Cubist continues to grow, so has the Quant Academy. In 2023, the program welcomed its largest class to date with six members, along with three participants in the newly introduced Quant Developer track. Meanwhile, Cubist has increased its number of investment teams by 25% since Cubist President Denis Dancanet took over in 2020, and at the same time has built out a central quant team.
This is an exciting opportunity for exceptional candidates that have demonstrated an ability to conduct independent research utilizing large data sets, have a strong track record of working both independently and within a small team, and possess intellectual curiosity and passion for investing.
