Jaimi Goodfriend teaching an Academy class

What does it take to thrive as an investment analyst when no two market days are the same? That’s just one of the questions Jaimi Goodfriend, Head of Investment Professional Development and Point72 Academy Director, explored during her recent appearance on LSEG’s “Hedge Fund Huddle” podcast.

From practical career advice to a glimpse into Point72’s investor-centric, mentorship-driven culture, Jaimi shared insights drawn from a decade of building one of the industry’s most comprehensive talent development programs.

Throughout the conversation, Jaimi’s advice for aspiring analysts was refreshingly practical and accessible:

  • Start simple. Pick two or three stocks and follow them daily. When they move significantly, dig into why. It’s a practice that costs nothing but reveals if one is truly passionate about markets and understanding its movements.
  • Don’t overthink your major. As Jaimi put it: “I care far more about what I call the unteachable qualities – your critical thinking skills, your work ethic…” The Academy hires across disciplines from history majors to computer scientists.

The conversation also touched on how the Academy sets itself apart with its ability to leverage a decade of experience while staying ahead of change. Jaimi’s team continuously evolves their curriculum around emerging tools, such as AI, recognizing that the analysts of tomorrow need to master both timeless fundaments and the latest technological innovations.

It’s this kind of forward-thinking approach that has helped over 200 Academy graduates build careers at Point72.1
