Observer: Steve Cohen’s Latest Donations Support Student-Managed Funds

November 2023

Earlier this year, our Founder and CEO Steve Cohen donated $100,000 to three separate long/short funds run by student investing groups at Brown University, University of California, Berkeley, and MIT. The donations aim to provide students with early exposure to what it’s like to run a L/S investment strategy and educate them on a career in investing and the industry as a whole.

Observer took a closer look at the three funds, why they were chosen, and Steve’s motivation to back these promising young investors and help give them real-world experience managing diverse investment strategies.

“He noticed that the majority of the student investment funds are long-only, and he wanted to provide opportunities for students to learn about the diversity of ideas.”

– Jean Horenstein, Operating Officer for Investment Professional Development at Point72 Academy.
